Red Rash on Body

Likely you have had at some point in your life a rash on your body and wondered what it was but some people get them over and over again and still do not determine the cause. Some rashes are basically harmless such as heat rashes and hives but other rashes can be more serious and should be treated either with over the counter remedies or by a doctor.

I am sure you are wondering how you are supposed to know which rashes to treat yourself, when you should see a doctor, or which rashes you should ignore. Well there are a number of signs and distinguishing differences between the different types of red rashes that you can get and certain ones have certain characteristics.

nowing what these characteristics are will help you to determine how serious a red rash on body parts are and help you to determine exactly what course of action you should take. Why suffer with an itchy, irritating rash after all when you do not have to?

Red Rash on Body – Types of Rashes

Hives – Hives are characterized by red bumps on the skin. This skin condition can be caused by a number of things including allergies to certain foods and medicines. Hives come and go according to no uniform standard and can occur at basically anytime if one is prone to them.

Red Rash on Body – Dermatitis

This skin condition is also commonly known as eczema and affects many people though with varying degrees. Dermatitis is characterized by red and inflamed skin that often appears swollen. There are multiple forms of dermatitis and each one generally affects a certain area of skin such as the scalp or the face.

Red Rash on Body – Tinea Infections
This type of infection includes ring worm, jock itch, and athlete’s foot. These are all fungal infections that appear flat and round and cause itching.

Red Rash on Body – Psoriasis

The skin condition psoriasis involves the development of cells. Due to a quickened skin cell life cycle cells develop more quickly and build up until they become scaly looking and silver in color. For some individuals the condition can be painful.

Making Red Rash on Body Go Away
Determine Underlying Cause – The best way to get rid of a skin condition is to determine the underlying cause so that it can be treated and breakouts can cease. Although not all conditions can be made to completely go away many can be treated enough to minimize the effects to a degree. If it is possible to see a doctor that is always the solution that is advisable.

Topical Solutions – Topical creams are a great way to reduce the itching brought on by some skin conditions. The hydrocortisone containing creams are more designed for smaller rashes though rather than those that break out on the whole body.

Allergy Medications – Allergy medications that contain antihistamines such as Benadryl will also help relieve itching caused by skin conditions in some cases. Medications such as these should not be used as a long term solution though.

It is difficult to keep track of all of the different skin conditions and treatments but having a general idea of how to relieve some of the affects will at least make them more bearable. Any skin condition that seems to last longer than normal should be checked by a doctor so that they may help you finally get the relief you have always hoped for.
